Thousand Islands (Indonesia)

Kepulauan Seribu ( Indonesian for German Thousand Islands ) is an archipelago of around 130 small islands, about 15 to 60 km off the coast of Java near the city of Jakarta is. The islands form a government district ( kabupaten ) of the capital district of Jakarta.

The population of the islands, of which only some are inhabited, is approximately 15,000. Most people live on the island of Pulau Kelapa, which is located 15 kilometers from Jakarta. Administrative center of the island group is Pramuka on the island Pramuka ( Pulau Pramuka ). Panjang ( Pulau Panjang ) has only one of the islands a short runway for propeller aircraft. The islands are a popular destination for residents of Jakarta and fast boats from Marina Ancol Jakarta reachable. The closer to the coast islands are more affected by pollution from the port of Tanjung Priok Jakarta affected.

  • Pulau Kotok: known as snorkeling and scuba diving
  • Pulau Putri: numerous restaurants, resort
  • Pulau Sepa: one of the smaller islands, good beaches
  • Pulau Bira: golf course, good beaches
