Thracian Sea

The Thracian Sea ( Pelagos Greek Thrakiko Θρακικό Πέλαγος, Turkish Trakya Denizi ) is a marginal sea of the Aegean in the European Mediterranean. It is located south of the coast of Macedonia and Thrace, between the Chalkidiki peninsula and the northwestern Turkey and the Gallipoli Peninsula. As a southern border with the rest of the Aegean true about the 40th degree of latitude, to the east connecting the Dardanelles with the Thracian Sea of ​​Marmara.

The coast is indented by several bays, there are from west to east, the Gulf of Ierissos, the Strymonische Gulf, the Bay of Kavala and the Bay of Saros. Some water-rich rivers drain into the sea, namely goiter, Nestos and Mariza.
