Three Character Classic

The Three - Character Classic (Chinese三字经, Pinyin Sanzio Jing ) is a didactic poem for Chinese school children, which was used in the Republic of China on Taiwan until the 1960s. It was compiled in the 13th century by Wang Yinglin (王 应 麟, 1223-1296 ), a renowned Confucian scholars. Therefore, it also conveys the core values ​​of Confucianism.

The poem consists of 1,200 characters which are grouped into verses of three characters.

It begins with the famous words:

「人 之初 性 本 善」

In Pinyin:

「 Řén Zhi chū Ben Shan Xing 」

This means something like: "In the beginning, people are (the person is ) good."
