Three Character Classic
The Three - Character Classic (Chinese三字经, Pinyin Sanzio Jing ) is a didactic poem for Chinese school children, which was used in the Republic of China on Taiwan until the 1960s. It was compiled in the 13th century by Wang Yinglin (王 应 麟, 1223-1296 ), a renowned Confucian scholars. Therefore, it also conveys the core values of Confucianism.
The poem consists of 1,200 characters which are grouped into verses of three characters.
It begins with the famous words:
「人 之初 性 本 善」
In Pinyin:
「 Řén Zhi chū Ben Shan Xing 」
This means something like: "In the beginning, people are (the person is ) good."
