Thrombocytosis

From thrombocytosis occurs when the blood platelets ( thrombocytes) are increased in the blood above the normal range beyond (see blood ). We distinguish the reactive thrombocytosis, which is caused by other underlying illnesses, from essential thrombocythemia, which is an independent bone marrow disease and is counted among the myeloproliferative disorders.

A reactive thrombocytosis can

  • After splenectomy
  • With malignancies
  • During or after cytotoxic chemotherapy
  • After acute blood loss,
  • Chronic iron deficiency, but also
  • In chronic inflammatory diseases ( eg Crohn's disease, rheumatic diseases ) occur.
