Thumri

The Thumri ( Devanagari: ठुमरी, ṭhumarī; Nastaliq: ٹھمری ) is a North Indian vocal music style of Indian classical music, which is referred to as the Dadra vocals as light classical music.

The religious theme of Thumri is connected to the Bhakti cult. The Thumri style served the early 19th century to the accompaniment of entertainment dances and later became an independent romantic - lyrical vocal form. Mid-19th century it was as the Tappa style to the ruling houses of North India, and especially in Lucknow popular.
