Thung Wa District

Amphoe Thung Wa ( Thai: อำเภอ ทุ่งหว้า ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the province of Satun. The Satun province is located in the extreme southwest of the southern region of Thailand.

Geography

Adjacent counties and regions are (from north clockwise): Amphoe Palian in the province of Trang, Amphoe Manang and Amphoe La - ngu the province of Satun. To the west lies the Strait of Malacca.

A large part of the coast of the county as well as several islands are part of the National Park Mu Ko Phetra.

History

Thung Wa was one of the original districts of the city ( Mueang ) Satun. The main industry in the early 20th century, the production of pepper. When the pepper production declined in the 1910s in Thung Wa, attracted many locals in the agricultural district of La - ngu, foreign merchants left the area. 1930 amended the Government to manage the changed economic situation by La - ngu classified up to a district and Thung Wa simultaneously in a small district ( King Amphoe ) transformed. 1973 Thung Wa received the Amphoe status again.

Management

Amphoe Khuan Don is divided into five subdistricts ( tambon), which continued in 35 village communities ( Muban ) are divided.

Thung Wa is also the name of a small town ( thesaban tambon) in the district, it consists of parts of the tambon Thung Wa

There are also five " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.
