Thur (France)

Dam of Krüth - Wildensteiner reservoir

Geography

Course

The Thur rises in the Vosges Mountains on the southwest flank of Rain head north of Wildenstein. In Kruth a dam was built 1959-63 to regulate the outflow especially after the snow melts. This created the Lac de Kruth - Wildenstein.

The Thur then flows past by the Thur valley ( Vallée de la Thur ), in Saint -Amarin, Thann and Alt Thann, before it enters the Upper Rhine Plain and turns to the north-east at Cernay. Below Ensisheim it opens in the Ill. A branching off the mouth arm flows as Old Thur further north, at Rouffach over and opens below Pfaff home in the leeks.

At the level powder was home over a period of 35 years (1974 - 2009) calculated the average annual runoff of the Thur. The catchment area corresponding to at this point, with 250 km ² approximately 95.5 % of the whole catchment area of the river.

The river discharge varies during the year pretty strong. The highest water levels in the months of December - March measured. Your maximum level in the runoff with 11.40 m³ / s in January. From April to the bed goes back month after month and reached its lowest level in August with2, 04 m³ / s in order to increase again thereafter from month to month. The average annual value here is 6.19 m³ / s
