Thurcytel

Turketel or Turketul (* 907, † July 12 975 in Croyland Abbey ) was councilor under four English kings and abbot of Croyland Abbey.

Life

Turketul was a son of Æthelweard and a grandson of King Alfred the Great of Wessex. He was educated at the Abbey of Croyland, and later appointed by his uncle Edward the Elder ( 871-924 ) to the Lord High Chancellor. He governed ecclesiastical affairs. This office he held under the following kings Æthelweard ( 904-924 ) Æthelstan ( 894-939 ) Edmund and from I ( 921-946 ).

946 Turketul appeared as a monk in the Abbey of Croyland. In a Danish raid the abbey was devastated, but with the money and built his family. 948 -proclaimed King Edmund I. Turketul abbot of the monastery of Croyland. He wrote the Chronicle: History Croylands from 716 to 973
