Thyni

The Thynen or Thynier ( altgr. Θυνοί = Thynier ) were a Thracian tribe in ancient Thrace and Bithynia.

Her main area of settlement was in the area around the river Strymon and Salmydessos. They wandered in the 8th century BC from Asia Minor, where they founded Bithynia. The first Greek settlers used the word Thyni ( " Huns " ) to describe the encountered in this field strains. The meaning of its name is unclear. One possible explanation is that the name of AltGr. θύννος ( = tuna ) was derived, as it were rich both in their original area as well as on the Bosphorus tuna resources.
