Thyon

Thyon ( 2,095 m above sea level. M. ) is a district of the political community Vex on the western slope of the Val d' Hérémence in Hérens district in the canton of Valais.

The village is connected to the 4 Vallées ski destinations with the La Tzoumaz, Nendaz, Verbier and Veysonnaz. Between Thyon and Veysonnaz is, inter alia, to the so-called Piste de l'Ours ( in German: bear run ), on which also has often Cup races were held.

The Thyon- Région comprises the two municipalities Hérémence and Vex and stretches from the wide, fertile Rhône- level (600 m) up to the Mont -Blanc de Cheilon ( 3'870 m above sea level. M. ). In this area emerged one after the other stations Les Collons Thyon 2000 Les Masses. In this common in the 1960s and 1970s initially larger apartment houses, built later, more and more individual chalets on former pastures. The station now has 80 inhabitants and 7,000 guest beds.

In the history of Thyon Region Water plays an important role. 1476 Bisse ( bites, water canal ) » Mayens " has been built, which has been neglected over time so that there was a water shortage. The construction of the Dixence water tunnel in 1934 saved the situation.
