Tião Viana

Tião Viana, actually: Sebastião Afonso Viana Macedo Neves, ( born February 9, 1961 in Rio Branco, Acre ) is a Brazilian politician. He is a member of the Brazilian Workers' Party ( PT).

Life

Tião Viana studied medicine at the Universidade Federal do Pará 1981-1986 and specialized in tropical medicine in 1987 at the Universidade Federal do Triângulo Mineiro. In 1994 he first ran for political office as governor of Acre, but without success. Contrast, successful was his 1998 election to the Brazilian Federal Senate. The office as a senator for Acre, he took up on 1 February 1999 and held this position until December 21, 2010. In 2007, he was barely two months President of the Federal Senate.

He is since 1 January 2011 as the successor of Binho Marques acting governor of the state of Acre.
