Tiberio Mitri

Tiberio Mitri ( born July 12, 1926 in Trieste, † February 12, 2001 in Rome ) was an Italian boxer and actor.

Life

Mitri began in 1946 a career as a professional boxer; In 1948, he was Italian champion in the middleweight division, the following year he won the title of European Champion this weight class. On 12 July 1950, he lost a world championship match against Jack LaMotta in a hard fought decision. In 1954 he was European champion again, lost the title in his next defense but again. In September 1957, he ended his athletic career.

Mitri was married to actress Fulvia Franco - condition of their wedding was supposed to be the defense of his title fight against Jean Stock - with whom he has a son born in 1951, who died relatively young from a drug overdose. The relationship with the film industry intensified after Mitri film debut in 1952 in I tre corsari; until 1970, he joined, in 1954 the Franco had divorced on in around 25 films in supporting roles. Even while watching TV Mitri found numerous opportunities to occur. After 1970 it was silent around him; some tragic family events and more and more increasing physical and mental problems occurred alongside long-term consequences of his boxers career apparent. From 1989 on, he again played a role; in the television series Classe di ferro he was seen as an ex- boxer who now lives on pizza making. Mitri died in 2001 when he was hit by a train.

A film adaptation of his life as a miniseries under the title Tiberio Mitri: Il campione e la miss came in March 2011 in the headlines when a relative prevented the full radiance of the biography.

Mitri was married a second time and had a daughter born in 1967, who died of AIDS.
