Tiberius Claudius Donatus

Tiberius Claudius Donatus was an ancient Latin grammarians. He lived in the 4th century AD and wrote a review of Virgil's Aeneid, entitled interpretationes. It is designed as a school comment and dedicated to the son of the author. Important sources were the comments of Aelius Donatus and Servius in the drafting.

The interpretationes came during the Middle Ages into oblivion. After its discovery ( 1438 ) they were very popular in the Renaissance, so that the text from 1488 to 1599 appeared in 55 editions. The first critical edition put the Stuttgart school professor Heinrich Georgii before (Leipzig: Teubner 1905-1906 ). She is outdated by numerous discoveries, but still not replaced.
