Tibor Benedek
Tibor Benedek ( born July 12, 1972 in Budapest ) is a former Hungarian water polo player and now coach of the water polo national team of Hungary.
The 1.90 m wide left-handed part of the generation of Hungarian water polo player who was able to build on the great successes of the 1950s from the 1990s. In 1990, he debuted in the Hungarian national team. At the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992, he was among the team that finished sixth. 1993 and 1995 he won silver at the European Championships. At the Games in Atlanta, the Hungarian team took fourth place. Benedek 1997 won the European Championship his first major title. Followed in 1998 by silver at the World Championships in Perth.
At the 2000 Olympics in Sydney he became Olympic champion in 2001 and 2003 he finished third at the European Championships and won the 2003 world title. In Athens at the 2004 Olympic Games, he became the second -time Olympic champion. After that he initially did not occur to the national team. At the World Championships 2007 he was back with the team and won silver. At the Olympic Games in 2008, the Hungarians won the finals against the team from the United States. For Benedek it was the third Olympic victory in a row.
From 1989 to 1996 he was a member of the club UTE, the water polo Department of Ujpest Dozsa. 1991, 1993, 1994 and 1995, he was Hungarian Champion. From 1996 to 2004 he played in Italy. By 2001, he was with Assitalia in Rome and in 1999 Italian Champion. From 2001 to 2004, he stepped up to Pro Recco, he was also here in 2002 Italian Champion. In 2004 he moved back to Budapest and plays the Master of 2005 and 2006 BHSE Domino.
Since early 2013 he is the coach of the Hungarian water polo national team and won with his team the title at the Water Polo World Championships 2013 in Barcelona.
