Tidaholm

Tidaholm is a place ( tätort ) in the Swedish county of Västra Götaland County and the historic province of Västergötland. The village lies between the two lakes Vänern and Vättern and is capital of the municipality of the same name.

History

Tidaholm lies on the River Tidan at a rapids. At the same time, the river forms two islands, Turbinhusön ( "Turbine House Island " ) and Vulcanön ( " volcano island "). There was at the beginning of the 19th century, an ironworks, later, the match factory Vulcan, which was the largest in the world in 1900, and a carpentry shop were built. 1903, the first cars were produced here. Around the factories was a place that grew up with its economic success and market town in 1895 ( Köpings ) and in 1910 was raised to town.

Cityscape

Tidaholm was coined by industrial enterprises, especially the match factory, which lay on the island Vulcanön. The town was late, and only in 1900 was a town center north of the railway line, which no longer exists today, is applied. On the islands in the river, there are now no more industrial companies. On the Vulcan Island is now home to an industrial and automotive museum and the Rudbecksgymnasium, on the Turbinhus Isle is among other things an art gallery.

Economy
