Tigre people

The Tigre ( Tigre Italian or Tigray ) are an ethnic group in Eritrea. Tigre there form 30 to 40 percent of the population. They are not to be confused with the Tigrinya.

Their language is also called Tigre and Tigrinya belongs as well as the to the Semitic languages. It is written with the Ethiopic script, but also with the Arabic script.

The Tigre live in the northern lowlands of Eritrea and the Sudan south of the adjacent state of al -Bahr al - ahmar. The vast majority of them committed to the Sunnite Islam, which includes popular religious faith practices such as in neighboring Sudan. Some Tigre are followers of the Sufi Order of the Khatmiyya.

Tigre live mainly as farmers in small villages in round houses or operate semi-nomadic animal husbandry.
