Tikhon (Stepanov)

Tikhon (Russian Тихон, born Nikolai Vladimirovich Stepanov, Николай Владимирович Степанов; born March 2, 1963 in Kostroma, † October 20, 2010 in Arkhangelsk ) was a Russian Orthodox Bishop of Arkhangelsk and Kholmogory.

Life

Nikolai Stepanov was born the son of a priest Vladimir Stepanov. After his military service in the Soviet Army from 1982 to 1984 he studied from 1984 to 1986 at the Leningrad Theological Seminary and 1986-1990 at the Leningrad Theological Academy and at St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary in New York. On August 28, 1991, he received from Bishop Manuel of Petrozavodsk and Olonetz the usual monk's tonsure; a day later he was ordained a deacon. On September 1, 1991 he was ordained priest and on 16 June 1992 to the rank of abbot.

In 1991 he became secretary of the diocesan administration in Petrozavodsk and personal secretary of Bishop Manuel. Since 1995 he was chairman of the local council and the rector of St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Petrozavodsk. In addition, he was a member of the ad hoc working group to plan the revival of the Orthodox Mission of the Russian Orthodox Church of the Diocese of Petrozavodsk. On December 27, 1995 he was elected at the meeting of the Holy Synod of Bishops of Arkhangelsk and Kholmogory. 1996 he was appointed Archimandrite. In 1996, in the Moscow Patriarch Alexy II cathedral through episcopal consecration. Since 2001, he was Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the architectural heritage of St. Andrei Rublev ( Андрей Рублёв ). He was elected deputy chairman of the joint working group on cooperation between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Norway 2002.

Nikolai Stepanov died in the night from 19 to 20 October 2010.

Honors

He was honored with the medal of the " Order of Merit for the Fatherland " ( Медаль ордена « За заслуги перед Отечеством » ) 2001. In the same year he was awarded the Order of the Venerable Sergius of Radonezh.
