Tila is a municipality in the center of the Mexican state of Chiapas. The municipality is located in the Sierra Madre de Chiapas. The name comes from the Nahuatl and means " the black water ".

The municipality has 71 432 inhabitants and is 803.9 km ². Administrative seat and largest town in the municipality of the same name Tila ( 7,164 inhabitants); other large places are Petalcingo, Nueva Esperanza and El Limar.

The municipality borders the Municipalities Salto de Agua, Tumbalá, Yajalón, Simojovel and Sabanilla as well as to the state of Tabasco.
