Tilbury (carriage)

The Tilbury is a lightweight, single-axis, open, one-horse gig, which was prepared either with or without folding top.

The vehicle was built in 1815 in England by the car maker Tilbury for the Hon Fitzroy Stanhope. It was during the 19th century, without significant changes in use.

Tilbury were often used by people who had to travel often and quickly short distances, such as traveling salesmen, farmers and doctors. The Tilbury was until the early 20th century, the typical vehicle of rural doctors.
