Tilden is a city in the U.S. state of Nebraska, which is mostly in Madison County, the rest of the city is located in Antelope County.

She is probably best known as the birthplace of the author and founder of Scientology L. Ron Hubbard and the baseball player Richie Ashburn. Tilden was originally founded in 1885 as Burnett, but the U.S. Post Office officially changed the name in 1887 in Tilden, after it had come to be confused with the town of Bennet, Nebraska. Tilden is named after the presidential candidate Samuel J. Tilden.

History

The first settlers opened up the area now Tilden in the fall of 1868, another 10 families met the following spring to it. While the settlement grew, they began to build a railway line along the Elkhorn River. As 1880 in Antelope County, near the border of Madison County, a railway station was built, they founded the town of Burnett between Madison / Antelope County. The official foundation took place in October 1885. At this time the city had 218 inhabitants. 1918, the population of Tilden had grown to 1,000 residents and the town was officially declared a second-class city.
