Tilicho Lake

The Tilichosee (pronounced Tilitscho ) is located at an altitude of 4,920 m in the Annapurna region of Nepal. He is about 4 km long and 1.2 km wide. It is 1,110 m higher than the highest navigable lake, Lake Titicaca and is sometimes referred to as the highest lake of the earth; but in fact there are still some larger lakes at higher altitudes (eg, the crater lake of Licancabur to 5,900 m).

In the southwest of the lake, the Grande Barriere is the Tilicho Peak ( 7,134 m) the highest peak. The Tilicho Lake can be reached from either of Annapurna Circuit Jomsom via the Mesokantu Pass ( 5,100 m ) or Manang by the Khangsar Valley. The route over the Mesokantu pass through the locked military training area at Kaisang. Another path leads north over the pass, the " Mesokantu North " or " Tilicho Tourist la " is called. This path leads north past the restricted area. The Tilichosee begins to freeze over in November. The end of December it is then usually very icy and thaws again only on in April.
