TIM Brasil

TIM Brasil SA is the third largest mobile phone company in Brazil, with approximately 10,300 employees. It was founded in 1998 and belongs to the TIM International S. p. A. Telecom Italia Mobile.

Organization

The TIM Brasil SA manages the TIM Participações in Rio de Janeiro, belong to the two companies:

  • TIM Cellular SA ( TCSL3 ) ( from the merger of TIM Sul SA and TIM Cellular SA) and
  • TIM Nordeste SA ( TCSL4 ) ( from the merger of TIM Nordeste Telecomunicações SA and SA Maxitel )

Both companies are traded on the Bovespa (TELE CL SUL ON ( TCSL3 ) and TELE CL SUL PN ( TCSL4 ) ).

History

The Brazilian government organized on 22 May 1998 a number of regional mobile communications companies in the two companies Sul Participações SA TeleMobil and Tele Nordeste SA Participações mobile.

On July 29, 1998, a consortium of the UGB Participações Ltda and Bitel Participações SA took control of the companies by the government. The IPO of TeleMobil Sul took place on 21 September 1998 at the Bovespa and on 16 November 1998 on the New York Stock Exchange.

On 15 December 1998 UGB Participações sold its stake in the Bitel. The Telecom Italia Mobile ( TIM) bought on 26 March 1999, after approval by the antitrust authorities ( Cade ), the shares of the UGB.

On 30 January 2001 TIM acquired licenses for the construction of GSM 900 - and DCS 1800 networks. In the years 2001 to June 2006 Part societies were repeatedly merged and reorganized.

Technology

In 2002 a population coverage of 92.42 percent of the urban population was achieved in over 2,500 cities in Brazil. The TIM network provides GSM, GPRS, UMTS, EDGE and HSDPA.

TIM was the first mobile operator, has adopted the UMTS mode in the prepaid sector. For a daily rate of ten Reais 250 MB of data can be retrieved within 24 hours.

In May 2007, TIM Brasil has received a fixed license. Since then, a special service is offered with TIM Casa Flex. The customer receives for its SIM card both a landline and a mobile number. If it is in its home zone, all calls to the landline number on the mobile phone number to be switched. (see O2 Home Zone ).

Customer data

TIM Brasil had the end of 2008 approximately 29.832 million prepaid and postpaid 6.571 million, for a total of 36.402 million mobile customers. At approximately 150.6 million mobile subscribers in Brazil does that make a market share of 24.16 percent.
