Reflections on his work

Tim Burton's trademark is usually " weird" but multilayered films with partly comic or morbid to the bizarre accents, actions and actors. The motifs and figures are either taken from the comic book world (see the Batman films ) or located in the horror genre. Burton liked citing elements of the Gothic and underground scene, where he has specialized mainly on horror comedies. In addition, it is noticeable that he used elements like the films from the period of German Expressionism ( "Max Shreck " as the villain in Batman Returns ). Burton's more recent works play with surreal subjects (Big Fish) and always convince with detail- stage designs, whether it be the creepy playful characters and scenarios of its puppet animation films, or the elaborate buildings and costumes of Batman films. In addition, he dared to place with Ed Wood, a black and white film in theaters.

Vincent Price in a supporting role (one of the last performances of the actor in Edward Scissorhands ) and the role of Bela Lugosi in Ed Wood (played by Martin Landau ) were, as he said in an interview, " a tribute to the films and cast that it already enthusiastic in his childhood. "

Burton's films fascinate either through gloomy scenarios (Batman ), droll sense of humor ( Mars Attacks ) or shrill, garish elements ( for example, the kitschy buildings of suburbia in Edward Scissorhands or almost everything in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ). In Burton's film scores falls to pronounced weakness for songs of 1960er/1970er - for example, Tom Jones, he can sing in several films in the background and who also played a supporting role in Mars Attacks.

The newer projects Burtons go again childlike fascination and imagination assets from: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is based on a classic children's book by Roald Dahl, while Corpse Bride - Corpse Bride ( Oscar nomination 2006), as previously Nightmare Before Christmas, a stop-motion - puppet animation film.

2007 Burton filmed the Broadway musical Sweeney Todd - The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. This film was in 2008 with the Golden Globe for Best Movie ( Comedy or Musical) and on 24 February 2008 with the Oscar in the category " Best Art Direction".

For the title role, he won the little-known Australian Mia Wasikowska, while Johnny Depp slipped into the role of the Mad Hatter. Theatrical release was on March 4, 2010. Came the end of December 2009, produced by Burton animated movie # 9, which is about nine small figures in a bleak future, as Blu -ray and DVD on the market.
