Tim Hauser

Tim Hauser ( born December 12, 1941 in Troy, New York ) is a singer of the vocal group The Manhattan Transfer.

Life

At the age of seven years, Hauser and his family moved to New Jersey, where he lived in Ocean Township and Asbury Park. He attended the St. Rose High School in Belmar. There, an award is presented to students since 1989 in his name, which have special achievements in theater studies.

At the age of 15, he started performing as a singer. He founded a doo wop vocal quintet that The Criterion. They took two singles for the label Cecilia. The Criterion also appeared in Alan Freed's Big Beat Show. Hauser also developed an early talent as a producer.

In 1959 he began studying economics at Villanova University. In his student years, he continued his musical interests. Together with other members of The Criterion, Tommy West and Jim reputation, he joined the group Troubadors Three on as a folk singer. He was also a member of the Villanova Singers and Villanova Speyer / Coventry Lads, along with his classmates Jim Croce. Hauser was over four years, employees of the university radio station WWVU. In 1963 he graduated from Villanova with a Bachelor in Economics.

In 1964, Hauser served in the U.S. Air Force and the New Jersey Air National Guard. In 1965 he began a career in marketing. From 1965 to 1966 Tim Hauser worked as a market research analyst at advertising agency Sullivan, Stauffer, Colwell and Bayles and from 1966 to 1968 as head of market research for the Special Products Division of the National Biscuit Company, where he was responsible for cereal snacks, cereals and pet food had.

In 1969 he founded The Manhattan Transfer with Gene Pistilli, Marty Nelson, Erin Dickins and Pat Rosalia. The group had a country and R & B sound. Together they recorded the album Jukin 'at the Capitol label. Due to the difference of opinion about the musical direction of the group disbanded in the early 1970s.

Through odd jobs, he learned the singers Laurel Massé and Janis Siegel know. Together they decided in 1972 to establish new The Manhattan Transfer. Another singer Alan Paul was engaged. After a car accident, Massé decided to leave the group to pursue a solo career. In 1978, Cheryl Bentyne was hired to replace them.

The Manhattan Transfer have won 10 Grammys and numerous gold and platinum records. They were both chosen by the readers of Down Beat and Playboy as best vocal group of the 1980s. In 2007 she won the poll of Jazz Times readers as the best vocal group. As Ahmet Ertegun, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was founded, he chose Tim Hauser in the selection committee; a position he held for three years between 1986 and 1989. In 1993 Hauser received an honorary doctorate in music from the Berklee College of Music awarded.
