Tim Wilkison

Tim Wilkison ( born November 23, 1959 in Shelby, North Carolina ) is a former American professional tennis player.

Life

Wilkison 1977 professional tennis player and was in the singles final of Auckland, where, however, he was defeated by Vijay Amritraj. The following year he won his first singles title in Sydney on the ATP World Tour with a final win over Kim Warwick. In 1980 he celebrated in Manchester at the side of John Sadri his first doubles title. In total he won during his career six singles and ten doubles titles. Its highest listing in the tennis world ranking he reached in 1986 with position 23 in singles, and in 1989 with position 21 in doubles.

His best result at a Grand Slam tournament he had in 1986 at Wimbledon, when he retired as the last Americans in the quarter- final against Stefan Edberg. In the doubles competition in 1979 he was in the semifinals of the Australian Open and Wimbledon. In the same year he was also the quarter-finals of the U.S. Open.

After the end of his professional career, he played on the ATP Seniors Tour. In 1998, he succeeded at the Nuveen Masters Championships, his first victory over Jimmy Connors, whom he was always inferior to earlier in eleven matches since 1979. His best listing on the ranking list of the seniors he had with position 15 in 2000.

His nickname of Doctor Dirt Rambo and he came through his aggressive style of play and pike jumps. Vitas Gerulaitis said about Wilkison "Every match I've played with him he always comes out bleeding.
