Time in Brazil

Brazil has three time zones. In some southern states additionally a summer time is observed. Officially speaking from a Brasília - time as well as a zone and a zone Brasília Brasília 1 -1.

Time zones

Brasília time ( UTC -3)

The time zone of Brasília corresponds to UTC -3; during the summer time UTC -2 to it, but this is not understood by all the states in this zone. Brasília Time 1 ( UTC -2)

This time zone is UTC -2. It applies to some Brazilian Atlantic Islands ( Fernando de Noronha, Trindade, Martim Vaz, Atol das Rocas, Saint Peter and Saint Paul Rocks ). In it there is no daylight savings time.

Brasília Time 1 (UTC -4)

This time zone is UTC -4; during the summer time it to UTC -3, but this is not understood by all States. Uses it is of Amazonas, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Rondônia, Roraima and and since 2008 also in Acre. Until 2008, the western part of Pará in this time zone were.

Brasília - time -2 ( UTC -5, historically )

Daylight saving time

Daylight Saving Time begins on the third Sunday of October and ends on the third Sunday in February. Should this weekend in February the carnival fall, the transition is shifted one week.

The summer time is kept by the following States: Espírito Santo, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, São Paulo and the Federal District.

A DST was introduced in Brazil in 1931. Initially it was for the entire country, until 1988, the equatorial states were excluded.

Fixed start and end dates of summer time as well as the affected states were established in 2008, previously was again decided by decree that every year.
