Timepiece is an experimental short film by Jim Henson from 1965.
Action
A man lying in bed and is abgehorcht by a doctor. The man's loud heartbeat is the rhythm of the following scenes. The man goes to work, where he worked on the assembly line, is 17 clock home and eat with his wife. In the evening a visit to a strip club follows. This is followed by scenes of the man as a prisoner after he took a shot at the Mona Lisa and was condemned for it. The man flees and flies like Icarus with wings in the air, crashes at the end, however, to the ground. Upon impact on the ground you can see that in reality, a clock has been dropped, the 12 shows clock. Previous scenes run quickly cut together, in the end the man is covered in the bed of a cloth. The executive doctor again is the man himself, who winks at the camera.
Production
Filming for Timepiece began in the spring of 1964 and lasted about a year. The film is created surreal and experimental. Everyday sounds are stressed or replaced by alternative sounds, scenes played backwards and at different man, but the same sequence presentation, one behind the other cut. The film is without dialogue, but the man says in the film repeatedly "Help! ": When his head is served at dinner, as shot at him as Icarus and when he is at the end in a toilet and flushed down is. The incoherent in themselves scenes are connected by cut- out animation sequences.
The film experienced on May 6, 1965 at the Museum of Modern Art in its premiere and was later shown as a supporting film to a man and a woman in the movies.
Awards
Time Piece was nominated in 1966 for Best Short film for an Oscar in the category and was awarded a prize by the International Jury of the Venice Film Festival in 1966. The film won the 1967 Blue Ribbon Award from the American Film Festival.
