Timidria

Timidria is a human rights organization in Niger. It was founded by Ilguilas Weila and campaigns against slavery in Niger.

Timidria was founded in 1991, her name means Tamascheq " solidarity." Slavery is officially banned in Niger and Niger's government denies the existence of slavery, but international human rights organizations such as Anti-Slavery International estimate the number of slaves in the country to about 43,000. ( Ilguilas Weila said in a speech in 2004 did 870,000. )

The headquarters of Timidria is located in the capital, Niamey, in addition, it maintains offices throughout the country. The organization helps runaway slaves legally and practically. One focus of the work is about raising awareness of the slavery prohibition, because most slaves live in remote areas, are illiterate and do not know that slavery is abolished in Niger.
