Timișoara Zoological Garden

The Tiergarten Timisoara (Romanian Gradina Zoologica Timişoara) was opened in hunting forest Temeswar ( Timişoara Romanian Pădurea Verde ) 1986. He is the youngest zoo in Romania and extends to the northeast Timişoara, on an area of 6.36 hectares.

History

At its opening in 1986, the Timisoara zoo housed 30 native animals.

In partnership with the Zoological Park of Szeged a modernization program of the zoo was started in Timisoara in 2004. The project " CarpatZoo " is funded by the European Regional Development Fund and led in the period 2004-2007 to redesign the Tiergarten in Timisoara according to the latest EU standards. The first works were devoted to the infrastructure; new avenues and paths as well as new parking spaces were created, the entire zoo was equipped with surveillance cameras to observe the behavior of animals. There were 16 habitats with a total of 144 animals of 29 species, set up as a children's petting zoo and a mini safari.

In exchange with the Zoological Garden of Szeged animals were settled from all continents in the Tiergarten Timisoara, which are native to Central and South America, Europe, and some in Africa and Australia.
