Timmaspe is a municipality in the district of Rendsburg -Eckernförde in Schleswig -Holstein.

Geography and transport

Timmaspe is located about 8 km north- west of Neumünster and 4 km southeast of Nortorf at the Federal Highway 7 and the former state highway 205 to Rendsburg.

History

The village lies in a heathland area, which is caused by the mining and smelting of bog iron in prehistoric times, as the forest areas of the region were cut down by the wood consumption in the smelting. Only in the 18th and 19th centuries was attempted, the area mainly reforest with softwoods.

Timmaspe was first mentioned in 1320 as Tymmenaspe. The place name means Espenort of Timmo. An aspen is aspen.

Since 1980, the largest pet cemetery in Europe is in Timmaspe.

Policy

Of the eleven seats in the municipal council has the voter community KWG since the local elections 2008 six seats, the voter community ATW has three seats and the two SPD.

  • Walter Bartram (1893-1971) was a German politician ( CDU). He was from 1950 to 1951 Minister -President of Schleswig -Holstein. Since 1947 he was the owner of the power feed factory in Aspe Timmaspe.
