Timmy Simons ( 2012)
Timmy Simons ( born December 11, 1976 in Diest ) is a Belgian footballer.
Career
In the club
Simons began his career in his hometown Diest at KTH Diest. From there he went in 1998 to SK Lommel. In 2000, he joined the Belgian giants Club Brugge. By 2005, he ran for the FC Brugge in the Jupiler League in 111 games, and there was also sporting success: He was twice Belgian Champion (2003, 2005) and Cup Winners' Cup twice (2002, 2004).
2002 Simons was also elected Belgian Footballer of the Year.
In 2005 he moved to PSV Eindhoven. At PSV he held the position of team captain. He played in the Eredivisie 158 games (14 goals), won three the Dutch Championship ( 2006, 2007, 2008) and in 2009 Dutch Super Cup winners. With two clubs he played in the UEFA Champions League and played a total of 40 games ( 11 FC Bruges / 29 PSV Eindhoven ). He was most recently in the 2009/10 season in the Europa League on the ball and completed a total of UEFA Cup and Europa League 19 games ( 4 FC Bruges / 15 PSV Eindhoven ).
For the season 2010/11 moved to Simon's 1.FC Nürnberg. There he made his debut on 15 August 2010, when he was in the starting in the first round of the DFB Cup against Eintracht Trier. His debut in the Bundesliga, followed on August 21, 2010, when he also was in the starting on the opening day against Borussia Mönchengladbach. In his first season of experienced players stabilized on the position in front of the back four, the defense of the young team that could largely stay out of the relegation battle and with the sixth place went to one of the best placements of their Bundesliga history at the end. Simons was the only player of the team, which was in any minutes of the season on the court. Also in the first half of the season 2011/12 he came in every game of the 1st FC Nuremberg used. On January 10, 2012 Simon extended his contract until 2014. On June 12, 2013 were given surprisingly announced that the Belgian national team will change after three years at the 1st FC Nuremberg to his Belgian home club FC Bruges. There a two year contract will receive the 36 -year-old, who was in 2012/13 the oldest outfield player in the Premier League last season, with connection option for a change in the coaching staff.
In the National Team
His debut in the Belgian national was Simons in 2001. A year later, he took part in Belgium for the World Cup in Japan and South Korea. After he had lost his place in Eindhoven, he was not appointed. Until then, he had accrued 71 times in the jersey of the Belgian national team and had scored three goals. End of August 2010 he gave after his move to 1.FC Nürnberg his comeback in the national team when he was nominated for the qualifier for the 2012 European Football Championship against Germany and 3 September 2010 there came also used. Simons finished with his team in qualifying third behind Germany and Turkey. The team had until the last game, again against Germany, chances of second place, which would have meant to participate in the relegation.
