Timmy Yip

Timmy Yip ( born December 22, 1967 in Hong Kong) is a Chinese art director, costume and set designers, who won numerous other film awards in addition to the Oscar for Best Production Design.

Life

Yip started his career as an art director, costume and production designer in the film industry in 1989 with the film A cup of Tea ( Eat a Bowl of Tea ) and worked until today at the facilities of around 30 films.

In 1993 he won for best art direction along with Zhanjia Yang and Wai -Ming Lee at the Golden Horse Film Festival Golden Horse Award, one of the most important Chinese film awards, specifically for seduction behind monastery walls (1993 ) by Clara Law with Joan Chen, Hsing- kuo Wu and Zhang Fengyi. He was also nominated this 1994 in the Hong Kong Film Awards for the award for best art direction.

His most successful film was previously Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) by Ang Lee starring Chow Yun -Fat, Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi: For this he won at the Academy Awards in 2001 not only the Oscar for Best Production Design, but was also for the Oscar for Best Costume Design nomination. He also won the British Academy Film Awards ( BAFTA Film Award ) and the LAFCA Award of the Los Angeles Film Critics Association for Best Production Design for Best Costume Design. He has also received nominations for Best Costume Design at the Saturn Award for Excellence in Production Design Award from the Art Directors Guild, BAFTA Film Award for Best Production Design for the Horse Award for best art direction, for the Hong Kong Film Award for best Production Design and best Costume for the designs as well as for a Golden Satellite Award for best Production Design and Best Costume Design.

At the Hong Kong Film Awards 2003, he also received a nomination for best art direction in Double Vision - Five dens to Immortality (2002) by Chen Kuo -fu with Leon Dai, David Morse and Yang Kuei -Mei in the lead roles. In 2006 he was for the staged by Chen Kaige with Jang Dong -gun, Hiroyuki Sanada and Cecilia Cheung movie Wu Ji - nominated The Promise (2005 ) for the Hong Kong Film Award for best art direction and best costume and makeup design.

Another successful for him film was The Banquet (2006) by Feng Xiaogang Zhang Ziyi, Daniel Wu and Zhou Xun: For this he won the 2007 Asian Film Award, the Golden Horse Award for Best Production Design and Best Makeup and Costume Design. He was also nominated for this 2007 for the Hong Film Award for the best art direction and best costume and makeup design.

In 2009 he was with for the Saturn Award for Best Costume Design and Eddy Wong nominated for the Satellite Award for Best Production Design for Red Cliff (2008) by John Woo with Tony Leung, Takeshi Kaneshiro and Fengyi Zhan. In addition, he won the Hong Kong Film Award for best art direction and best costume and makeup design for this film.

For Chi bi xia: Jue zhan tian xia (2009), which was also directed by John Woo with Tony Leung, Takeshi Kaneshiro and Fengyi Zhan, he was again recently for the Hong Kong Film Award for best art direction and best costume and Makeup Design nominated.
