Timo Blomqvist

Timo Pauli Blomqvist ( born January 23, 1961 in Helsinki ) is a retired Finnish professional ice hockey player who, among other things for the Washington Capitals and New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League and Jokerit Helsinki, Lahti and Reipas Espoo Blues in 1977-1998 the SM- liiga played.

Career

Timo Blomqvist began his career as a hockey player 1977 Jokerit Helsinki, for which he had the following three seasons, long active in the SM- liiga. He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1980 in the fifth round as the 89th overall player of the Washington Capitals. First, however, the defender played for another year in the SM- liiga in Reipas Lahti. Prior to the 1981/82 season Blomqvist eventually moved to the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League, where he was employed in the following four seasons regularly. After serving in the 1985/86 season exclusively for their farm team, the Binghamton Whalers of the American Hockey League, was on the ice, he received in 1986 as a free agent contract with the New Jersey Devils, for whom he in the 1986/87 season one assist in 20 games scored.

After six years in North America Blomqvist returned in 1987 to Europe, where he worked for three years with MoDo Hockey Örnsköldsvik and Malmo IF aground in the following six seasons in the Swedish Elitserien. With Malmö 1992 he became Swedish Champion. Subsequently signed Blomqvist for a year in the Norwegian Elite Series at Sparta Sarpsborg, before he returned for two seasons at the Espoo Blues in Finland. This was followed by a season in Europe at the Vienna EV in the Alps League and the ES White water in the sub-prime first German league before Blomqvist in 1998 ended his career with the unterklassigen Finnish clubs EPS Espoo and Ahmat Hyvinkää.

Internationally

For Finland Blomqvist took part in the U20 World Junior Championships 1979, 1980 and 1981, as well as the A World Championships in 1985 and 1989 in part. In addition, he was in the squad of Finland at the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary in 1988 and 1992 in Albertville.
