Timoleague Friary

The Timoleague Friary (Irish Mainistir Thigh Molaige ) is a former Franciscan monastery in Ireland.

The branch of the Order was founded in 1400 in Timoleague (now County Cork). The first rather simple church was in 1500 by the Bishop of Ross, Edmund de Courcy, who was a member of the Franciscan Order, expanded and provided with the still to be seen the tower. Edmund de Courcy in 1518 was buried in the old cemetery in front of the monastery. The monastery existed until 1642, when it was burned by British troops under Lord Forbes.

The monasteries are almost completely preserved in ruins. The picturesque ruins are the stuff of several known elegiac seals from the 19th century.
