Timor Ponies in Maubisse in the highlands of East Timor

The Timor Pony is an ancient breed from the island of Timor. It is the smallest breed of horse on the Southeast Asian islands. It is there even today as an everyday pack and riding animal. Presumably it comes from Indian breeds that were imported by the Portuguese and later the Dutch on the island. There were also native ponies that went up in the race. Timor ponies were from 1803 also exported to Australia, where they played a major role in the growth of the Australian ponies.

Timor Ponies are considered strong, tough and agile. You have a calm and willing nature. The ponies are built petite, unassuming, sure-footed, have a short back, a muscular neck and a standing mane. The shoulders are straight and the legs and feet strong. They usually have a brown, black, reddish brown and sometimes gray color. Also piebald occur. Their size varies between 100 and 120 centimeters.
