Timorese Nationalist Party

The Partido Nasionalista Timorense ( PNT, port. Partido Nacionalista Timorense, eng. Timorese Nationalist Party) is a party in East Timor. It was founded on 15 June 1999.

Founder and President is Abílio Araújo, who was during the Indonesian occupation until his dismissal in 1993 FRETILIN representative overseas.

During the independence referendum of 1999, the PNT is called for an autonomy solution, instead of the independence of Indonesia. From the alignment it is referred to as progressive national. So Bahasa Indonesia should be maintained as an official language and the Indonesian rupiah as currency. Araújo criticized the then President Xanana Gusmão decision for the Portuguese as an official language, and referring in this connection several times Gusmão and José Ramos- Horta's Portuguese roots. An important point in the politics of PNT is the close and friendly relationship with Indonesia. Here she is working with the Indonesian party PDI -P.

At the first election for the Parliament of East Timor on 30 August 2001, the PNT won 2.2% of the vote and two seats. MPs were Aires Francisco Cabral and sister of the PNT President Aliança Araújo.

In the parliamentary elections on 30 June 2007, the PNT received only 10,057 votes, or 2.42% of the valid votes and thus failed at the new three- percent threshold. The greatest support she found in the district of Baucau, where she received 1273 votes (2.46 %). About 1,000 votes, the PNT was only in the district of Viqueque with 1183 votes (3.57 %).

In July 2007, the PNT joined with five other parties, who had also failed in the parliamentary elections at the three- percent threshold together to League Democrática Progressiva LDP. The LDP is intended for very different ideological and program participants as a political platform outside parliament.

At the parliamentary elections in 2012, the PNT was not allowed because she has not released its list with the electoral authorities within the period. Aliança Araújo came with their set up in 2008 Timorense Partido Democrático ( PTD), but failed at the three- percent threshold.
