Timothy F. Murphy

Timothy F. " Tim " Murphy ( born September 11, 1952 in Cleveland, Ohio) is an American politician. Since 2003 he represents the state of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Tim Murphy attended Walsh Jesuit High School in Ohio and then to Wheeling Jesuit University in 1974 in West Virginia. This was followed up in 1976 to study at the Cleveland State University. He finished his studies in 1979 at the University of Pittsburgh. He then worked as a psychologist at the same university. In this field, he was co-editor of some of the textbooks. Politically, Murphy was a member of the Republican Party. Between 1996 and 2002 he sat in the Senate of Pennsylvania.

In the congressional elections of 2002, Murphy was in the 18th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Michael F. Doyle on January 3, 2003. After the previous four elections he can exercise his mandate in Congress today. He is a member of the Committee on Energy and Commerce as well as in three of its subcommittees. Previously, he was sitting in the Veterans Committee and the Committee on Government Reform. Murphy is also a member of the Congressional Arts Caucus. In his previous term as congressman of the Iraq war and the military mission in Afghanistan fell. Murphy was also involved in two scandals. It went in 2006 to illegal campaign workers and then to the so-called Solyndra scandal in which he was about money. In addition, he was confronted with allegations of corruption. However, it was in none of the cases to investigations or charges.

In 2012, Timothy Murphy is once again for re-election after he was able to prevail in the primary of his party against one of the Tea Party movement.
