Timothy Goebel

Timothy Richard Goebel ( born September 10, 1980 in Evanston, Illinois ) is an American former figure skater, who started in a single run.

Timothy Goebel was adopted as an infant by Ginny and Rick Goebel by Catholic Charities. He began at the age of 4 years with the figure skating. He was coached by Frank Carroll, Carol Heiss, Glyn Watts, Donna Dickinson and Audrey Weisiger last. Lori Nichol and Tatiana Tarasova were responsible for his choreography.

Timothy Goebel was "Quad King" referred to are many quadruple jumps because of its ability. He is the first figure skaters, who in an ISU competition showed a fourfold Salchow. That was on 7 March 1998 at the Junior Grand Prix Final. He is the first American who was a quadruple jump in competition clean. On October 31, 1999 Skate America in Colorado Springs, he became the first figure skater, in a competition showed three quadruple jumps. In the 2002 World Cup Timothy Goebel showed six quadruple jumps. In the same year he presented at the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City was the first figure skater to quadruple Salchow in combination. He won the bronze medal behind Alexei Yagudin and Evgeni Plyushchenko. In 2002 and 2003 he was runner-up.

Goebel was the beginning of his career often criticized for too much to concentrate on the jumps and thereby neglect the choreography and presentation. This he could but improve later.

Since 2003, Goebel had increased to struggle with injuries. In 2006, he tried one last time and wanted to qualify for the Olympic Games. However, due to his injuries, he could not retrieve his potential jump at the national championships and was only seventh and thus failed to qualify. Then he gave on 25 April 2006 his retirement from active sports known. He continued his studies at Columbia University again. Today he works as a technical specialist at the Aviator Figure Skating Academy in New York.
