Timothy Kopra

Timothy Lennart Kopra ( born April 9, 1963 in Austin, Texas, USA) is an American astronaut.

Start of career

Copra graduated in 1981 at the McCallum High School in his hometown of Austin. In 1985, he joined the United States Military Academy at West Point with a Bachelor of Science from. His master's degree in aeronautics and space technology it acquired in 1995 from the Georgia Institute of Technology. At the U.S. Army War College in 2006, he made another master in tactics.

NASA

In September 1998, copra came as a test engineer for NASA. At that time he was employed in the field of space shuttle launches and outdoor applications for structural structure of the ISS. In 2000 he was elected to the 18th group of NASA astronauts and two years trained as a mission specialist. His specialty is the technical support of space operations. He worked in the Space Shuttle office among other things on the computer network for the ISS. After learning the Russian language, copra began in July 2005 for a long term stay in space to prepare. After graduation, he has coached at all international training centers and was planned as a replacement for the ISS Expedition 16 and 17.

ISS Expedition 20

Copra was from July to August in 2009, the ISS Expedition 20. The launch took place with STS -127 on July 15, 2009. Copra thus replaced the Japanese Koichi Wakata as ISS Flight Engineer from. On July 18, copra led with David Wolf through a spacewalk. Here are three works were carried out: the start of assembly of the Japanese Kibo ISS module, preparation of exchanges of ammonia tanks for a later shuttle mission and terminating a job at the coupling point P3, which was of STS- 119 is not yet complete. STS -133

A week after his return from his first space flight, he was named on September 18, 2009 already as a mission specialist on the STS -133 ( ISS ULF -5). After an injury in a bike accident on 15 January 2011 it was announced by NASA Steve Bowen as his replacement, since the expected full recovery is not expected until the launch date.

ISS Expedition 46

Copra was nominated on September 30, 2013 by NASA and will fly from November 2015 to May 2016 to the ISS. The launch with Soyuz TMA -19M is scheduled for 30 November 2015. Tim Kopar is with Sergei Saljotin and Timothy Peake the ISS Expeditions 46 and 47 members.
