Tinariwen

Tinariwen ( Tamashek ⵜ ⵏ ⵔ ⵓ ⵏ, deserts ', or even an empty place ' - a reference to the barren habitat, the Sahara offers ) is a band whose musicians come from the people of the Tuareg. From the traditional music, they accumulate only with elements of Western pop and rock music and use alongside traditional instruments and electric guitars and electric bass. The lyrics are sung in Tamashek and in French. For performances, the musicians wear the traditional clothes of the Tuareg, sometimes the Cheche, in contrast to the turban the head and face covered (except the eyes).

History

The members of the music group belong to that generation of Tuareg, who had fled from the 1960s from the Sahel to the cities north of the Sahara, because they had lost through long droughts their livelihoods. These urban Tuareg in economic exile are called Ishumar.

The band was formed by Ibrahim Ag Alhabib, Touhami Ag Alhassane, Abdallah Ag Housseyni, Mohammed Ag Itlal (called " Japonais " ) in 1982 and Kheddou founded in Tamanrasset in Algeria, where they played at weddings, baptisms and other celebrations. Later, the musicians spent several years in a Libyan military camp where Tuareg were trained as soldiers. They were actively involved in part in battles against the oppression of their people and dedicated themselves only after a fire caused by Niger and Mali uprising in 1994 entirely of music. Their political commitment is also reflected in the texts. For many years, drove the band their music on tapes and became famous nationwide.

2000 they recorded their first CD, The Radio Sessions Tisdas on. 2001, they were known by their appearance at the internationally renowned Festival au Désert in Mali for a western audience. They were given access to the western world music circles, toured extensively in Europe and the U.S., where they performed in California, among others, at the Festival international de musique Universitaire in Belfort, at the Glastonbury Festival and the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, and got to a certain degree also attention in the independent scene. Next to its reputation was a joint concert with Carlos Santana at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2006. 2007 and 2009 was followed by the album Aman Iman or Imidiwan.

2011, her album Tassili, in the guest musician Kyp Malone and Tunde Adebimpe ( TV on the Radio ), Nels Cline ( Wilco ) and involved the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. Due to the uncertain situation in northern Mali, the recordings could not as it used to be held in Tessalit, but were moved to a camp in the desert in southern Algeria. On electrically amplified instruments has been omitted here.

Style

The band was influenced not only by the music of their culture by Western music of Led Zeppelin, Johnny Cash, and Carlos Santana, she met copied cassettes and joint live performances on the distribution.

They are considered the first Tuareg band to use electric guitars. Their style is called al - guitara. In addition to three electric guitars and electric bass as rhythm instruments they use a djembe and hand clapping.
