Tinbergen Institute

The Tinbergen Institute (TI ) (English: Tinbergen Institute ) is one of Europe's leading graduate schools and research institutes in the fields of economics, econometrics and finance. The Institute combines three of the best Universities in the Netherlands: Erasmus University Rotterdam ( EUR ), the University of Amsterdam ( UvA ) and the VU University Amsterdam (VU). Current director of the Tinbergen is Professor Bauke Visser.

The Tinbergen Institute is named after the first Nobel Laureate in Economics and Dutch economist January Tinbergen.

History

The Tinbergen Institute was founded in 1987 by the faculties of economics from the Erasmus University Rotterdam, the University of Amsterdam and the Free University of Amsterdam with the aim to create the right environment for the writing of a dissertation in the broadly -conceived areas of economics, econometrics or finance. In the 1990s, the Institute improved its research expertise and has become an international meeting point for economists and economists. This development was driven in 1993 by establishing the TI Alumni Association bill, whose purpose is to maintain contact with former research staff at the Tinbergen Institute in the long term. This currently includes more than 450 alumni.

Training

The Tinbergen Institute offers a research master ( M.Phil. ) With two profiles: a profile in economics and econometrics, which both consist of two years of intensive instruction. On the research masters follow for usually three years of research in preparation for a dissertation, for a Ph.D. is awarded.

Research

The research area of the Tinbergen Institute includes four programs:

  • Institutions and decision analysis;
  • Financial Markets and International markets;
  • Work, region, and the environment;
  • Econometrics.

Ranking

Because it combines the best researchers in the fields of economics, econometrics and finance of the three leading Dutch universities, the Tinbergen Institute will not be ranked separately from these three participating universities. However, it would based on the publications of his fellows (professors ) will be ranked, it would inevitably be rated as one of Europe's best research institutes and among the top 20 research institutions worldwide.

In the ranking of the top 200 economics departments worldwide Kalaitzidakis and others ( 2003), based on research contributions in the 30 leading economics journals, the Tinbergen Institute would be with an aggregate value of EUR, UvA and VU ranked 15th internationally, and on rank 1 landed in Europe.
