Tinea manuum

As tinea manus ( Sy. tinea manuum ) is defined as a dermatophytosis of the hand. Pathogens are especially Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, rarely also Epidermophyton floccosum. At the same time, there is often an athlete's foot, which acts as a source of infection, and a fungal nail.

Tinea manus usually occurs on one side. One distinguishes a dyshidrotic tinea manus with pruritic vesicles and pustules on the palms and fingertips and hyperkeratotic tinea manus rhagadiforme with reddened, scaly changes and fissures of the palm side and fingers. Treatment consists of antifungal agents.

Must be differentiated mainly Candida albicans infections ( intertriginous candidiasis ), which occurs mainly between the fingers and manifests itself through deeper skin defects as well as psoriasis and other eczema.
