Tin (II) sulfide, is a chemical compound of the elements tin and sulfur represented by the formula SnS.
Occurrence
Tin is in the nature (II ) sulfide in the form of the mineral Herzenbergit.
Production and representation
Tin (II ) sulfide can be obtained by reaction of tin with sulfur or by reacting tin ( II) chloride with hydrogen sulfide.
Properties
Tin ( II ) sulfide is a dark gray solid, which, however, is insoluble soluble in concentrated hydrochloric acid in water.
Use
Poorly soluble (dark brown ) tin ( II ) sulfide can be used as a qualitative test for Sn2 ions ( precipitation reaction ). Of Sn2 - containing solutions, in this case (II ) sulfide may be precipitated with hydrogen sulfide or sulfide -soluble salts of tin.
Furthermore it is used as an additive in the powder metallurgy used. It is a binary semiconductors and is accordingly used in the semiconductor art.
