Tino (island)

Tino is an Italian island in the Ligurian Sea. It is located at the southwestern entrance of the Gulf of La Spezia and belongs to the municipality of Porto Venere in the province of La Spezia, Liguria region.

Geography

Tino has an area of 12.7 ha It forms with the much larger island of Palmaria in the north and the islet Tinetto in the south extension of the Peninsula, the Gulf of La Spezia (including Gulf of Poets ) shields from the Mediterranean and the Monte Santa Croce rises to 543 m. The three islands are part of the cultural landscape Portovenere and the Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.

History

The Holy Venerius born on Palmaria lived until his death in 630 on the island as a hermit.
