Tipton County (Indiana)

Tipton County is a county located in the state of Indiana in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Tipton.

Geography

The County is located just north of the geographic center of Indiana and has an area of 674 square kilometers, without significant water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Howard County, Grant County, Madison County, Hamilton County and Clinton County.

History

Tipton County was formed on January 15, 1844 from portions of Cass County, Hamilton County and Miami County. It was named after John Tipton, a surviving officer of the Battle of Tippecanoe.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Tipton County 16,577 people in 6,469 households and 4,748 families. The population density was 25 people per square kilometer.
