Tirana International Hotel

The Tirana International Hotel & Conference Centre is a four star hotel in the Albanian capital Tirana. It is located on the central Skanderbeg Square and the Boulevard Zogu I. The local population calls it Pesëmbedhjetëkatëshi ( German 15 - storey that ).

History

The redesign of Skanderbeg Square in the 1960s a hotel was planned. After built in the 60's culture palace was in the early 70s with the construction of the hotel, the second large building in the Soviet style, begun. This was followed by the third Prunkbau on Skanderbeg Square, the National Museum of History. For the construction of the hotel especially prefabricated concrete elements were used. The hotel was inaugurated in 1979 after ten years of work as a Hotel Tirana with then 324 rooms.

With its 15 floors the Hotel Tirana was until well into the 1990s, the tallest building in Albania that was visible with its white facade for many kilometers. In the 80s it was a popular meeting place for members of the Politburo - secret underground escape tunnels made ​​for their safety.

In 1993, the hotel finance and loans from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development was sold to a joint venture between the Albanian government and an Italian hotel chain. The hotel was henceforth under management of the Italian hotel chain. In the following years the house has been completely overhauled inside and out. It received its present appearance. Since its reopening in March 1995 is the name Tirana International. For a few years it was the leading hotel in the city.

In 2001 the hotel was renovated again in order to meet international standards. 2004, sold his share in the hotel to a local consortium of businessmen in the Albanian state.

Equipment

The Tirana International now has 166 rooms and suites. It is one of the major convention and event centers of Tirana. As a typical urban business hotel, it only has a little green and park areas around the house. Restaurant and Bar still serve as a central meeting place for the people of Tirana.
