Tiruppur district

The district Tiruppur (Tamil: திருப்பூர் மாவட்டம், also: Tirupur ) is a district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Administrative center is the eponymous town of Tiruppur.

Geography

The district Tirupour located inland in the west of Tamil Nadu. Neighboring districts are in the West Coimbatore, Erode in the north, in the east of Karur, Dindigul in the southeast and Idukki in the south. The latter already belongs to the neighboring federal state of Kerala. The district has an area of 5,192 square kilometers.

History

The early history of the district Tiruppur essentially corresponds to the district of Coimbatore. 1804 the area came from Tiruppur to British India and was incorporated as part of the district of Coimbatore in the province of Madras. After Indian independence, the area came in 1956 to the newly formed State of Madras (now Tamil Nadu ). 2009, the district Tiruppur from the eastern parts of the district of Coimbatore and the south of the district of Erode is formed.
