Tirzah (ancient city)

Tirza (Hebrew תרצה ) is an ancient city near Samaria. It is mentioned several times in the Bible and is identified with the modern Tell el- Far'ah.

Geography

The city was approximately 9 km east of Samaria (Joshua 12, 24 ), has been referred to as remarkable for their beauty ( Hoh 6, 4) and was the capital of the northern kingdom of Israel to King Omri (1 Kings 14, 17, 15, 21, 33, 16.6 ). According to the Bible Tirzah was taken by Joshua (Joshua 12, 24). In later times there Jeroboam, the first king of the northern kingdom lived I, after the biblical kingdom division (1 Kings 14, 17). Zimri set fire to the city when he was trapped by Omri (1 Kings 16, 17, 18). After six years, however, shifted the capital to Samaria Omri.
