Tiszadob

Tiszadob is a large village in the east of the Hungarian Szabolcs -Szatmár -Bereg county in northeastern Hungary. It is located on a dead arm of the river Tisza, 42 km from Nyíregyháza, 21 km from Tiszavasvári and 33 km from Miskolc.

History

Tiszadob and its surroundings were inhabited before the Conquest. It was mentioned in writing in 1220 Regestum of Várad and then in 1336. For a long time it was royal property. 1430 King Sigismund enfeoffed the bishopric of Eger with the place. 1588 he was already the property of the Báthory family. A few years prior to 1600 the place came into the possession of Francis II Rákóczi and his sister. After the crushing of his rebellion (1711 ), the family lost possession. 1746 bought him Franz Károlyi, who then passed by marriage to the Andrássy family. 1846 Count István Széchenyi here began the Tisza straightening.

Attractions

  • Andrássy Castle (Andrassy kastély ): From 1880 to 1885 was the former Prime Minister Gyula Andrássy the Elder build the castle. It has 365 windows, 52 rooms, 12 towers and four inputs. The figures are reminiscent of the year.
  • English Park and the French garden at the castle, maze of boxwood
  • Hunting lodge Ókenéz: early 19th century, built for Aladar Andrássy
  • Tube Tower: today's local history museum
  • Reformed church with medieval foundations in the late Baroque style with coffered ceiling from 1877
