Title of honor

An honorary title is awarded in recognition of a person, place, group, or other name. The practice of awarding of honorary titles and her dealing with it is historically and culturally very different.

In Germany there are

  • University degrees, also colloquially referred to as an academic title,
  • Non-academic titles.

(For the last part - contrary to appearances - also the title of professor, if he is awarded deserved artists state, so is not official and professional title. )

In Austria Occupation titles are very common.

In the GDR, honorary degrees were awarded to, for example:

  • A model brigade - the honorary title of Collective of Socialist Labor
  • Pilots of the NVA - the honorary title of Honored military pilot in the German Democratic Republic
